Conspiracy Theory

It'll be an adventure if we ever get there.

It's with some worry that I write the inaugural post of this blog. This week the Icelandic ash cloud is on the move and disrupting flights across Europe and British Airways cabin crew are to strike on no less than four occasions.

The fourth period of strike action is the one that really concerns us, and no doubt many more who are booked to travel, as it runs between 5th and 9th June - just two days prior to the opening ceremony in Johannesburg. We are booked with BA, flying out to Cape Town on the 10th June so it is any backlog of flights which could affect us. This is particularly frustrating as we booked our flights on the first week of sale, eleven months before travelling. We thought we were organised. Best laid plans...

We have tickets for Match 2 on 11th June, which is Uruguay v France, so we really need to be there. If all goes well, we arrive in Cape Town at around 8am. We need to collect the match tickets and the hire car at the airport which should see us in our accommodation in the city centre by lunchtime.

The thing is, we love Cape Town, well actually everywhere that we have visited in South Africa has been great. Driving the Garden Route, whale watching in Hermanus and Witsand, safari in Pilansberg, Durban, Jo'burg and even Sun City was alright. For a posh Butlins. So when it was announced that South Africa  would host the first World Cup on African soil, there was no question of us not going. That's six years in the planning and now there seems to be a conspiracy to stop us going. We were starting to plan what we needed to buy, last week I secured a ticket for the England v Algeria game and I need to download World in Motion for my iPod . The excitement was building. And then this.

We can only hope that the two sides involved come to an agreement, avoiding any strike action, so that we can switch to holiday mode and start to relax in the build to what should be a wonderful adventure.
